Research
Innovative engineering for MRI and MRI-guided therapies.
RF coils & arrays
Self-decoupled, flexible and wireless RF coils that raise SNR and simplify array design for clinical and preclinical MRI.
B0 shimming hardware
RF-transparent B0 shim coil arrays and integrated RF/shim coils that correct field inhomogeneity where it matters most.
RF & B1 homogeneity
Passive and parallel-transmit solutions for dark bands and B1 non-uniformity at 3T and 7T.
Implant safety
Novel materials and devices that reduce RF heating near implants, expanding safe access to MRI.
MRI-guided therapy
Hardware for MR-guided focused ultrasound (tcMRgFUS), including passive antennas that remove dark-band artifacts.
Portable & low-cost MRI
Low-cost wireless coils and portable MRI hardware that bring imaging to more patients and sites.
About the lab
Yan Lab develops innovative engineering solutions for technical challenges in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MRI-guided therapies. Our key research areas include improving RF and B0 homogeneity, reducing RF heating near implants, reducing motion-related artifacts, accelerating acquisition, and raising the signal-to-noise ratio of MRI systems. We also develop portable MRI scanners and MRI-guided therapy systems.
Dr. Yan has led multiple NIH-funded projects and invented influential devices such as the self-decoupled coil and the RF-transparent B0 shimming coil, which have advanced both MRI technology and its clinical applications. The lab includes research staff scientists, postdocs, PhD students and undergraduate students.
