Hao Liang's paper selected as a Featured Article in the Journal of Applied Physics

Congratulations to Dr. Hao Liang! His paper, “On the equivalence of demagnetization tensors as discrete cell size approaches zero in three-dimensional space,” has been selected as a Featured Article in the Journal of Applied Physics.

Calculating the demagnetization field is important in many fields, including magnetic resonance imaging and micromagnetics. A standard method divides space into finite-difference cells and uses demagnetization tensors to compute the field. With some tensors, the contributions from neighboring cells, and the differences between those contributions, do not go to zero as the cells get smaller. This work shows that in three-dimensional space, a specific set of magnetization tensors gives the same total demagnetization field as the Cauchy principal value as the cell size approaches zero. The paper also gives a lower bound on the convergence speed, confirmed with numerical experiments.
